Race to the Medallist Trophy with Dom Walter leading the charge!
The Race to the Medallist Trophy is well underway and there is a lot of buzz about the new format! The new format awards points based on your finishing position in each medal. The top 50 nett scores overall will receive points.
We had a great entry of 89 in the first event, some great scores, and one which stood out a little! 11 year old Dominic Walter carded a gross 76 (4 over par) nett 66 winning the first event and taking his handicap down to just 7.8. Well done Dom, a fantastic score!
The current top 10 are listed in the table (right).

Course Improvement Projects
Spring 2014
11th tee path and 10th green approach
We are currently remodelling the path which runs alongside the 11th tee. This has suffered from washout over the last couple years and debris has regularly been deposited on the 10th green approach. Once the path is complete, a drain will be installed to capture surface water from the path and adjacent copse. This will involve installing a drainage pipe across the 10th approach area. The final part of the project will involve turfing and seeding appropriate areas.
Bunker sand replacement
We have a number of bunkers which have suffered from contamination as a result of the excessive winter rain. Flood water has carried fine soil particles into the bunkers which, over a period of time, has restricted the ability of many bunkers to drain. The work will involve removing all contaminated sand, checking drains and replacing with new sand.
Irrigation mainline upgrade
We aim to continue with the installation of the new mainline system at the beginning of May. This is part of our long term plan of improving the flow of irrigation water to tees and greens on the red and yellow courses. The areas we will continue with are: left 12th tees to 3rd fairway, 12th green to 14th tees, 15th tee area.
Hedge planting adjacent to main road
We have recently installed a new fence and planted a new hedge which completes the road visibility improvements at the entrance to the golf club. This formed part of the planning permission for the new par 3 course.

Pikey's Picks
The Masters 2014!
After not getting off to a great start last week with Dustin Johnson shooting 8 over par in his first round at The Shell Houston Open and subsequently withdrawing, this week I’ve decided to go into more depth for my selections for the first major of the year and quite simply, my favourite!
I’m hoping that you will all stick with me going into this week as I think our luck is about to change. Being a tournament where the criteria to get the invitation is to be in the Top 50 of the World Golf Rankings amongst a few ‘special’ invites, the field is fantastic and because of this I have picked seven players that I feel are worth a little flutter:
Sergio Garcia - After a successful event last week I’m really hoping that Ser gio can take his amazing ball striking and his new found love for the short stick and break his duck a with Major championship. Bets to win at 25/1.
Henrik Stenson - As everybody knows Stenson can really get some long distances off the tee with his 3 wood, a great asset for him this week at the masters! At the end of the day he has a long game that dreams are made of! Long and straight. Could it be his week? 30/1
Rickie Fowler - Going into this week armed with the confidence and working under the wing of his coach Butch Harmon (Pretty experienced in coaching major winners!) I see him as great value at 80/1 for this week!
Steve Stricker - This man certainly knows how to putt, something that is going to be crucial on the very fast and undulated greens at Augusta National. 100/1 or 11/2 for a Top 10 finish.
Harris English - Born and bred in the State of Georgia, Harris English is my home state pick for this week. Getting his 2014 season off to a great start with his second PGA Tour win he certainly isn’t one to be missed. On another note, English attended his home State University (as did Bubba Watson!) allowing him to play Augusta National twice a year whilst attending the University of Georgia. 70/1
Tim Clark and Fred Couples – Both players are complete outsiders but certainly not to be missed for an each way or top 10 bet. Clark at 350/1 or 28/1 for top 10 and Couples at 175/1 or 10/1 for top 10.
