Cumberwell Park Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Greetings golfers!

Record junior open entry!!

Monday saw us host the Cumberwell Park Junior Open, an event that has grown really well over the last few years. Our record entry attended with 76 junior golfers taking part this year!

This year we played the event on the Blue & Yellow nines with the boys playing from the white tees and girls from the reds.

We had some notable home performances with several scores under handicap.

Firstly, we had our very own Sarah Cheverton who's harked work has started to pay off with a gross 79, 4 shots under her handicap and good enough to take the Girls Gross & Nett prizes!! Well done Sarah, a great effort!!

Secondly, we had 13 year old Joe Retford who ran extremely close in the Boys Gross & Nett sections with a brilliant gross 72 - level par - 7 under his handicap. Joe fell just one shot short of our eventual winner Tom Stagg from Salisbury & South Wilts who returned a 71 - 1 under par to win the overall event.

Other notable scores included gross 74's from Alex Jacobs & Dom Walter.

Joe Retford has hit good form bringing his handicap down from 8 to 5 this week!!

Thanks to everyone who helped out during the day, in particular Richard Body, Steve Retford & Pete Doust who all helped with starting and ball spotting.

Incredible performance from 12 year old Dom!!

Future star Dom Walter put in another great performance this week in the Boys under 18's County Championships at Marlborough. 12 year old Dom, having never played the course before opened up with a gross 75 with an exceptional performance. His 75 (3 over par) was good enough to be sitting in 3rd place after round one, just two shots back from the leader.

Dom, having piled on the pressure after his first round, stepped up to the mark again with another 75, putting him clubhouse leader until the very last group. Jamie Amore (1) from Marlborough carded a 73 to follow is 75, good enough for a 2 shot win over Dom.

Needless to say, Dom was over the moon with his performance and he certainly made some heads turn in the county, although that's partly because he is still shorter than his golf bag!! His efforts were rewarded with his handicap being cut to just 3.9.

Well done to Dom from everyone in the club, a great achievement!!

Alex Jacobs wins Surry Cup

Alex Jacobs took home the Surry Cup last weekend with a super gross 69, his lowest score in competition golf, returning him 43 points!

His score was good enough for a one shot win over runner up Russell Whatley who going into Sunday evening thought he's done enough, until AJ carded his score.

It was another huge entry with over 160 competitors over the weekend, so thanks again to everyone for their support and well done to those in the prizes!

Join Woody for his Captain's Day

Club Captain Ian Wood has booked in his captains evening for Saturday 11th July 2015. Join Ian for an evening of food, drink laughter with Top Liverpool comedian Denny Waters.

The evening will cost just £20 and tickets are available at reception. It's sure to be a great night, so feel free to bring along your friends and family and let's raise some money for his chosen charity!!

This is an entry level club from Callaway that is perfect for the golfer that is after a top of the range product without breaking the bank! The drivers are priced at £149 , the Fairways £99 , Hybrids £89 and Irons 5-SW are £379 . These come in both Men's and Ladies and different lofts and shafts are available.

New stock arriving daily

Spring is always a busy time for the Cumberwell Park Proshop. We are getting deliveries on a daily basis of new stock, including Hardware and Soft goods, as well as clothing, balls and accessories. Pop in a check out our new products from all the leading brands.

After the strength of our first Callaway Club Fitting Day we have another one booked in for Saturday, 20 June ALL DAY! Now as you know, we have a huge collection of demo products from Callaway all year round, but on the demo day there is always a little more choice in shafts plus the expert help from Callaway club technicians. FootJoy shoe fitting day

An advance notification that we have another shoe fitting day booked in from FootJoy on Saturday, 13 June. We will again have another FootJoy shoe specialist with an incredible array of different types of shoes, sizes and widths to help you with the perfect pair of shoes. See you on the day!

Captain's roll up is underway

The Captain's roll up is back for 2015 and starting up again on Friday evenings with tee times starting from 5:30pm. The roll up runs weekly on Fridays until September. It is a great way to meet new people and have a quick, fun and competitive nine holes for just a £2 entry, payable in the shop on arrival.

There is an accumulative competition over the summer with prizes paid in handicap divisions.
