Captain's roll up is underway

The Captain's roll up is back for 2015 and starting up again on Friday evenings with tee times starting from 5:30pm. The roll up runs weekly on Fridays until September. It is a great way to meet new people and have a quick, fun and competitive nine holes for just a £2 entry, payable in the shop on arrival.

There is an accumulative competition over the summer with prizes paid in handicap divisions.

Be great to have another big crowd playing regularly. See you there.

Pay your knockout entry money

The draws for this year's Summer Knockout events have been taken off the board and are now with Martin Lang in preparation for the draws to be done. However, there are a lot of entrants who have not paid their entry fee and to ensure inclusion into the draw; entries must be paid into the shop by close of play Friday, 8 May. You can pay over the phone by calling 01225 862332.

Highman and Vivian win the test of 36 holes

Playing partners Andy Higham & Jeremy Vivian were resounding winners of this year's Cumberwell Classic, with 36 holes being played in one day, 18 holes of 4BBB followed by the tough foursomes format.

Higham & Vivian won wire to wire with the tied best score in the morning with 42 points and following it up with a superb 39 points foursomes score. Good enough for a four point win over second place Nick Walker & Ian McCommas.

Now as you know, we have a huge collection of demo products from Callaway all year round, but on the demo day there is always a little more choice in shafts plus the expert help from Callaway club technicians. As you may well know, we have undergone a major refurbishment of the teaching and custom fitting studio and as a result have more choice than ever before!! As a result we have been performing lots and lots of successful club fittings to members and visitors and this years products have been producing some huge improvements to golfers' games. For Ladies…

PING Rhapsody Range - The new specific ladies range of clubs from PING is absolutely fantastic, offering a combination of irons and hybrids, lofted fairway woods and a superb driver, all in a Ladies Light, and ladies Ultra Light shaft option. Fully 'custom fittable', we have been finding that ladies who try, love the new 6 hybrid, a great club for hitting the ball high and in addition to the hybrids, the fairway woods are generous in loft making it easy to get the ball up in the air of tight lies.

When we fit for ladies, often we do not recommend 14 clubs, it's important that we achieve consistent club gapping and ensure that women are not carrying clubs in their bags that they simply do not use. Get yourself and easy to use driver, an easy to use 'second shot club' and then look at what clubs you need to approach the green. We have a brilliant range of ladies clubs, so speak to us for a trial.

Drop the long irons…

With the average number of hybrids per bag increasing on tour year on year, there is little reason for amateur golfers to be carrying three and four irons. There is a range of hybrids to suit ever type of player. From low flighted hybrids available in the XR Pro, Titleist 915d and the R15, to higher flighted hybrids such as the great G30, XR and AeroBurner we have a hybrid for every player.

Manufacturers can simply achieve much better launch conditions (I know that sounds like something NASA would say, but it's true) in a hybrid than they can an iron, so the technology is there to hit high, towering approach shots into the green, it just isn't going to be in the form of a bladed three iron!

As expected, the new adidas shoe range has sold very well throughout the start of the year and we now have good stock levels in the adicross gripmore and adipower boost gripmore shoes. You need to try these shoes on, light with a revolutionary new sole!! We are also stocking a few new styles including the new adicross shoe in grey and the new boost shoe in white.
