New rules, new rules... The new rules set by the R&A and USGA are now in play and as you would have seen at the most recent PGA tour event, there are quite a few changes. Principally, they are designed to help simplify and more importantly speed up play! This week’s new rule change of the week is… You now have just THREE minutes to find your ball, after this time the ball is lost. The time starts when the players who’s ball is lost, starts looking. We will bring you another rule change next week.

Driving range balls and baskets A friendly reminder that these items are the property of Cumberwell Park. Their sole use is for the driving range. Under no circumstances can these items be taken away from the club, or to be used on other parts of the facilities. These include the course, short game area and par 3 course. Golfers should use their own balls when practicing on the short game area.

Members 'adopt a green' scheme The club has put in place a simple scheme to help reduce the amount of pitch marks left unrepaired on the greens, which we are hoping will see a huge reduction of pitch marks on the putting surfaces. Each member will be allocated a hole on each of the five nines and we ask that on ‘your’ green when playing we would be grateful if you could repair an extra 2/3 pitch marks paying special attention to any par 3’s you may be allotted. This alone would make such a difference to the surfaces all year round. To see which greens you have been allocated, simply follow the chart below to see where your surname falls.

Close, but not close enough
It was a case of what might have been for Rory McIlroy, as his first event of 2019 ended with him in a tie for 4th place at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. McIlroy, who was in contention going into the final round, could only card a round of 72, eight shots behind eventual winner Xander Schauffele who shot a stunning course-record equalling 62. The tournament featured 33 PGA Tour winners from the previous calendar year, so McIlroy can take heart that he beat the majority of a very strong field - however, he'll be hoping that his ability to produce a strong final round finally resurfaces by the time the first major of the year comes along.

A new year always brings with it a sense of renewed motivation when it comes to improving your golf game – and 2019 isn’t any different. So, before you head to the course next, go into the garage and give your equipment the once-over to make sure all is in order for the year ahead. |
| What will you find inside yours?
|
|
Is it half-broken tees and scuffed golf balls galore in there? Perhaps your glove is so tattered you don’t know which holes are for your fingers? |
What about your grips: have they worn away so badly that you have a better chance at holding on to the shaft? Or maybe the leather upper on your shoes is beginning to crack? |
Whatever it is, come and speak to us – we can fix you up with the best the golf industry has to offer, from tees to shoes to any accessory you can think of. |
