Ablrate.com PGA EuroPro Mazda Hole-In-One Members Shootout!
Tuesday 27th June was the first ever Hole-in-One shootout on the Par 3 Course. The event was held from the 4th Tee block to the 8th (island green) playing around 170 yards to the flag. The event was held from 4pm to 6pm for the amateurs and from 6pm onwards for the £100,000 professional shootout. For the amateurs there were three flags on the green, each with different prizes available. Top prize for a Hole in One to the top white flag was a Mazda MX5! But for nearest the pin was one year's platinum membership!
The eventual winners were Pete Saunders winning his membership for next year with a shot that finished 2ft 8" from the white flag! So close to a Hole in One! Nearest the yellow flag winning a Callaway Epic driver was Nigel Laughton and nearest the Red flag, winning an Odyssey putter was Tim Worrell. Well played guys! There was huge pressure with hundreds of people watching!
Next was the turn of the 25 professionals who qualified to shootout for the £100,000 prize! A consolation prize of £1000 was also up for grabs for nearest the pin. There were some fantastic shots that really got the crowd going and the Sky Sports cameras were running to capture all of the action. The eventual winner was Darren Walkely who just pipped Andrew Cheese by 1" to pocket the £1000 bonus! Darren managed to hit it to 4ft 9" with a 9 iron!
Unbelievable!
Unbelievably John Morgan holed his first shot after the event had finished in the warm down! Hole-in-One! The Sky Sports cameras were still running so they managed to capture the unbelievable shot! John dived into the lake to celebrate!
A momentous moment to finish what really was a superb event. A special 30 minute program will be aired on sky sports next week dedicated to the shoot out. It's not to be missed!
9 Hole Pairs Championship Qualifier
On Tuesday 11th July Cumberwell are hosting a 9 Hole Pairs Championship Qualifier. The format is a pairs betterball 9 hole pre-qualifier for the final later in the year. The event will be held on either the red or yellow courses and will be a shotgun start at 6:00pm.
Entry is FREE but limited to only 36 spaces, so it's on a first-come-first serve basis! There will also be a meal after for all the competitors. If you are interested please register by email to Ali James, alij@cumberwellpark.com.
Members 'Adopt A Green' Scheme
The club has put in place a simple scheme to help reduce the amount of pitch marks left unrepaired on the greens which we are hoping will see a huge reduction of pitch marks on the putting surfaces.
Each member will be allocated a hole on each of the five nines and we ask that on 'your' green when playing we would be grateful if you could repair an extra 2/3 pitch marks paying special attention to any par 3's you may be allotted. This alone would make such a difference to the surfaces all year round. To see which greens you have been allocated, simply follow the chart below to see where your surname falls.
