County Championships - Cumberwell win the Mens County Team Shield!
On Sunday, 17 May, Cumberwell Park held the annual Wiltshire County Championships. This 36 hole county competition is open to any amateur in a Wilshire Golf Club with a handicap of 7 or better. In a closely contested Championship, Garry Slade (Bowood) emerged as Champion for the second time. Two sub par rounds of 69 left him only 1 shot clear of home players Ali James and Paul Matthews.
Only two shots separated the three players after the morning round with Garry on 69, Paul on 70 and Ali on 71 but as the afternoon progressed the chasers closed in. Both Ali and Paul got to 5 under par for their rounds after 13 but the closing holes proved decisive. Paul dropped three successive shots on 14,15 and 16 and Ali dropped shots on 15 and 17 leaving Garry with a two shot advantage playing the last. His second overshot the green leaving a tricky pitch back down the hill but, needing two putts from 15 feet to win, he calmly rolled the ball close for a tap in 5 and victory by the single shot margin. Home player Myles Edwards took the Nett Prize with rounds of 66-71.
Following on from the ladies success, the men were not to be outdone with Cumberwell winning the county Team Shield with a combined gross team score of 4 under par over 36 holes!!
The three man team of Ali James (-3), Paul Matthews (-3) and James Cooper (+2) who all finished in the top 5 of the Men's County Champs at the weekend will go on to represent Cumberwell at County Durham in the Champions Club Final later in the year!

Spring is always a busy time for the Cumberwell Park Proshop. We are getting deliveries on a daily basis of new stock, including Hardware and Soft goods, as well as clothing, balls and accessories. Pop in a check out our new products from all the leading brands.
Junior fun day - Thursday 28th May 2015
We have a junior fun day scheduled for the Thursday of half term. The day starts at 10am and finishes at 3pm and covers range and short game practice in the morning, lunch in the clubhouse followed by a few holes on the course in the afternoon. Spaces are limited and priced at £27.50 per child . Call the shop on 01225 862332 to book.
New ladies group lessons

After the strength of our first Callaway Club Fitting Day we have another one booked in for Saturday, 20 June ALL DAY! Now as you know, we have a huge collection of demo products from Callaway all year round, but on the demo day there is always a little more choice in shafts plus the expert help from Callaway club technicians. FootJoy shoe fitting day
An advance notification that we have another shoe fitting day booked in from FootJoy on Saturday, 13 June. We will again have another FootJoy shoe specialist with an incredible array of different types of shoes, sizes and widths to help you with the perfect pair of shoes. See you on the day!
Captain's roll up is underway
The Captain's roll up is back for 2015 and starting up again on Friday evenings with tee times starting from 5:30pm. The roll up runs weekly on Fridays until September. It is a great way to meet new people and have a quick, fun and competitive nine holes for just a £2 entry, payable in the shop on arrival.
There is an accumulative competition over the summer with prizes paid in handicap divisions.
