Dom Walter is King of the Medallist!!
The Inaugural ‘Race to the Medallist’ concluded on Saturday with the final top 50 of the Order of Merit playing a medal on the Red & Yellow course in windy conditions!
They went out in points order with the lowest points teeing off first and the leading three players of the Order of Merit pegging it up last knowing what they had to do. The points had been reset to reflect their final OOM position and they were playing for a different set of points which would allow everyone in the field a chance to finish in the top 5 with a good performance in the final event (modelled on the FedEx Cup points).
Amazingly, having led the order of merit from the first medal, it was 12 year old Dom Walter who had it all to lose in the final event playing with Dominic Mussell & Luke Ayrton. Little Dom carded a brilliant gross 74 (nett 68) in tough conditions, to not only top the Order of Merit, but also win the final event by 2 clear shots to finish on an unprecedented maximum 5000 points!! It capped a tremendous year for Dom and we all wish to congratulate Dom on his fantastic achievement! A new 5.2 handicap and a star in the making!!
Their was big movement from Ken Day, who moved from 17th up into 2nd in the final OOM with a 2nd place finish, just edging out Dominic Mussell into 3rd place.
Thanks to everyone who supported the medals this year, we hope you all enjoyed the new format of the medallist trophy; it’s an event that will get bigger and better each year!!

Irrigation system update
Autumn 2014
It has been 2 years since we starting installing a new irrigation mainline system for the red and yellow courses. This has involved excavating trenches and inserting pipe work that will supply water to the tees, greens & approaches on these courses.
We are approximately half way through the project and aim to have the remaining pipe work in the ground by the end of this winter.
Many golf clubs would choose to use a contractor to install a new irrigation system but we are unique at Cumberwell in that we aim to carry out all projects in-house using our own skills as well as investing in the appropriate machinery.
The pipes we are installing, up to 315mm in diameter, will give us much more capacity around the course. This will enable us to water the greens and tees more effectively. We also have to take in to account the additional watering demands of the new par 3 course and the time it takes to water 45 holes in the overnight period.
Please be aware of open trenches, mounds of earth, and pipe work when out on the red & yellow courses.

As of Saturday 18th October, winter rules are now in operation. A player may lift, clean and place on closely mown areas within 6'' no nearer the hole.
In addition to this, relief may be taken from a plugged ball anywhere through the green (anywhere on the course except hazards). A free drop may be taken; no nearer the hole (the ball may be cleaned).

Run with Cumberwell in the Bath Half!!
Earlier this year, a team of 10 Cumberwell Park staff took part in the Bath Half Marathon. Although everyone ended up getting very wet, some good times were run including a 1:37:55 by one of our club pro’s Alex Blewett. We are looking to enter a team for the 2015 race and welcome any members who would like to join our team.
We have decided to run for the Bath Half local charity of the year – Bath Rugby Foundation. Bath Rugby Foundation is an independent charity which aims to enhance the lives of young people in the local area through sport.
If you would like to join the rest of the Cumberwell Park team enter this great event, please contact email Matthew James mattj@cumberwellpark.com where entry details will be made available.
