Danny Clayton retains men’s Club Championships following playoff! 117 players took part in last weekend’s men’s Club Championships, 36 holes from the green tees, in tough conditions, it always proves to be quite a test!! Defending champion Danny Clayton started with an outstanding first round score of 68, to be leading by 3 shots over Paul Matthews on 71, level par. Day two saw a charge from Nick Korynevsky who returned a 4 under par in round two, to post a 1 under par total, and put the pressure on leader Danny. From slipping out of the lead, Danny birdied the 18th to force a playoff! Holes 1,2 & 9 were needed to separate the pair, which saw Danny Clayton take a one shot victory over Nick, who won the event back in 2002. Please see the news section of the intelligent golf member’s area for final results and prize breakdown.

Phil Davis claims Adam Jack Trophy with final day 66 The handicap trophy was closely fought with only two players finishing under their handicaps over the two rounds, showing how tough the conditions were (also known as the green tee effect!) Paul Matthews (handicap 2) was runner up with rounds of nett 69 & 72, to finish on 1 under par, only to lose out by one shot from Adam Jack winner, Phil Davis (handicap 8), who carded a spectacular second 74 (nett 66) to finish on 2 under par and this year’s champion! In a tie for 3rd on level par was Andy Higham (5), Josh Belcher (4) and Toby Clark (9) who at aged just 11, carded gross scores of 77 & 83, so deserves a special mention!! Well done guys, great golf, in tough conditions!

Here, there and everywhere |
We are faced with a whole range of scenarios out on the course, some of which we practice regularly and others that we don’t. When you consider the different types of shots you hit around the greens, it really does highlight how versatile your wedges need to be. |
Versatility is key We ask a lot from our wedges, from opening up the face to hit high lob/flop shots to moving the ball back in our stance to play low flying pitches and everything in between. It’s therefore obvious that you should be playing something you’re comfortable with from any spot around the greens. If you’re yet to find that wedge, come and try the Callaway Mack Daddy 4 here in the shop. It comes in lots of lofts so we can discuss your wedge make up, plus we can test the different sole grinds to see which ones best suit the shots you like to play. |
