What a finale to this year’s EuroPro! This year saw Cumberwell host its fifth EuroPro event, and from a home perspective, it was one of the best yet with four home players in the top 10! It was Mark Young on -16 who ran out the eventual winner, following on from his win last week, beating home player Steve Surry into second place on his own on -12. Cumberwell Park junior James Cooper finished in 3rd place on -11, an incredible achievement from the 18 year old. Surry improved throughout the week and closed with a final round 65 to put the pressure on the leading groups. Cooper who opened with a 65, followed that with a 67, earning himself a spot in one of the feature TV groups and a chance of taking the title. He closed with another sub par 69 in front of hundreds of local supporters, it was brilliant to see. In addition, we had Will Brown, who closed with a 66 and finished in a tie for 4th, his best finish in a EuroPro event which earns him a spot in next week’s event! Cumberwell park amateur, Jamie Li, also had a good week with rounds of 67, 68 and 69 which was good enough for a top 10 and an all-around great experience! Thanks as always to the army of volunteers and spectators, the event really is a player’s favourite and that’s largely down to all the support they receive when at Cumberwell. The event continues to showcase Cumberwell to a wide audience whilst offering great playing opportunities to aspiring young golfers! A huge congratulations to Steve, Will, James and Jamie, fantastic efforts! Steve Surry takes on Final Qualifying for the Open this week with clubmate Laurie Canter. Will Brown, James Cooper (am) and Jamie Li (am) all earnt spots into this weeks EuroPro up in Newcastle, so keep an eye on them up North. Click here for the final leaderboard!

The past few months have seen us talk a lot about the importance of using clubs that are suited to your game because, ultimately, they’re going to give you the most help when out on the course. One piece of equipment we haven’t touched on yet, which needs just as much attention, is your putter. |
How do you narrow down the options? If you come by the shop to buy a new putter, you’ll be faced with an array of styles. From different head shapes and alignment guides, to various lengths and grip types. So how do you know which one will help you hole more putts? There are some trends you can look to. Larger mallet putters like this TaylorMade Spider Tour Red tend to suit golfers with straighter putting arcs, while they are also a little more stable to help with shorter putts. In comparison, blades like this TaylorMade Black Copper Collection Soto can usually help those of you with more of an arcing stroke, while some players also prefer the feel a blade offers. Of course, the most sensible thing to do is come to us once you have a shortlist and we can advise you on which model will best suit your stroke type and take you through a full custom fitting. Just imagine how many shots you could drop by holing more putts.
